Dear brain: quit it [Jun. 28th, 2010|08:57 am]
Beemer
I hate having the day get off to a lousy start because of upsetting dreams.

(E.g., yelling arguments with imaginary co-workers, vehicles that won't stop, cats jumping out windows of vehicles that won't stop, yelling at my mom because the vehicle won't stop and then it turns out it won't stop even when the engine is forcibly shut off, jumping out of moving vehicles, and then getting into yelling arguments with creepy cults of little girls who think that you can divide recently found cats into good and evil based on their fur color. Bah!)

As a Gestalt therapist-in-training, I'm wondering what aspect of you the creepy cult of little girls and the car represent.

Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through breeds, nor between litters, but between differently colored patches of fur.

Gradually, it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through routines, nor through classes, but between different calls.

Oh buddy! The best thing about starting a day off badly is that it has every potential to get better. You're fun and awesome and things will get better from here.

Besides, I know that girl cat cult, and they deserve a yelling.

I suggest getting your hands on an app called Sleep Cycle. I love this app on my iPhone! I just downloaded it a week ago. It monitors your movement to figure out where you are in your sleep cycle, and can wake you a bit earlier than the alarm you set if letting you keep sleeping until it goes off would put you at a bad place in your sleep cycle.

While I can't yet affirm the accuracy of these claims, it's really interesting seeing what my sleep patterns look like - and despite having relatively little rest of late, I do feel a bit more refreshed. It's only awakened me early twice so far, and it didn't *feel* early. Less vivid dreams most days, too. We'll see how it does over time...
