I'm not lazy, I'm efficient [Jun. 28th, 2010|12:12 pm]
Beemer
7:45 am: Minion sends email requesting time off for some family stuff.

8:30 am: I read email, contemplate response, decide to hold off on actually composing & sending response until later, when I am deailing with my inbox in a big batch.

9:02 am: Minion sends follow-up email saying "never mind!"

This is why I'm lazy: because it's not actually laziness, it's pre-emptive efficiency.

In much the same vein, the number of projects that I have blown off in my professional lifetime that turn out to not have actually been important to anyone is really quite remarkable.

Yep. For a while, I took a policy at work of not doing tasks for others until they had asked three times, and it was interesting how often the need for the task faded away without me having to do anything. In fact, that might be a good policy for me to re-adopt now.

The longer I wait to read an email thread, the fewer times it will reappear in my inbox and the more of it I'll be able to read without a context switch.
