Major Revisions, Pool Party, Ready Player One [May. 29th, 2015|08:46 am]
Beemer
I haven't had a lot of spare brain for posting lately due to too many items on the To-Do list.

I finished a big one yesterday, which was a journal article review that I put WAY too much effort into, but it was a really interesting idea, and I really wanted to see it work. The problem was, the way they did the demonstration analysis didn't show that it actually *DID* anything. I was originally going to reject it and strongly encourage them to rewrite and resubmit, but because they shared their code I was able to get more specific with my recommended fixes and upgrade it to major (MAJOR!) revisions. So yay!

And there have been a bunch of can-you-make-this-figure-TODAY things that keep jumping onto my agenda. Hopefully today will be more clear for focusing on the Big Looming Task of writing a big grant proposal.

Also worried about the cat.

Spent all afternoon Monday drifting in Bob & Pyro's swimming pool, which was a lovely, lovely way to start the summer.

I also have Pyro to thank for finally getting around to reading Ready Player One. He's been recommending it to me for a long time, so I got a copy as part of my birthday book splurge. I had intended to start it to bring along to the pool party and say "See? I'm reading it!" but then I had to read just one more chapter. And then I didn't really need to go to sleep just yet. And just a little more. Annnnd then I finished it on Sunday. What I'm saying is, it's got REALLY good pacing. And if you were a kid in the '80s, it is written exactly for you.
