So what've I been up to besides writing the damn proposal?
Bill's bachelor party last Saturday. First birthday party for Ben, Chris & Rose's youngest, on Sunday. Greg picked up this little chinese silk outfit for him in Phoenix; it was a big hit with the parents. (Especially the moms, who were all "I want a pair! Maybe I could lose a hundred pounds and fit in those...") Very-small-child birthday parties are mostly an excuse for the adults to hang out and socialize, so yay for that.
Tuesday, I think, Bryree came over and we watched Rent. I liked it. It's not my most favorite musical, but there were several songs I liked quite a bit. A little eye-roll inducingly early-20s art-student angsty, but entertaining. We debated why it got a PG-13 rating, given the number of times the word "fuck" is said/sung, and concluded that it must get bonus points for being a musical.
The RTD strike has been a big pain. Jerry and I both need to get into Boulder, but we only have one car to do it with. Fortunately, my job is very amenable to telecommuting, so I've just been driving him in for class, then spending a short day at work. Hopefully it'll be done by the time I need to go back to work on the 17th.
Last night we watched Bear Cub, which is a very nice movie. Once again, a lot of what I liked about it was the non-Hollywood-ness. It didn't bring up any of the obvious dilemmas, and it didn't paint things in black-and-white, or present easy answers. One thing that was kind of funny was that there were a few scenes where I was thinking "that's nice, but why is this taking so long? Oh, right! For some people, seeing two bearded guys kissing is not a normal thing!" Note that there is male nudity, and near the beginning there's even (*gasp*!) a penis onscreen.
Oh, and I actually caught a foreign-language pun! At one point somebody says "Thanks to the 'pink mafia'", and someone else responds "More like 'bear mafia'". In Spanish, pink mafia is "mafia rosa" and bear mafia is "mafia oso", so it was all punny, and I actually followed that back and forth between the dialogue and subtitles, which was pretty cool.
Games at Tom's tonight. Might be going up to the mountains tomorrow. Maybe Conference on World Affairs next week? In any case, it's all optional, which makes me happy and more relaxed than I have been in a long time.
