Planet Earth [Apr. 2nd, 2007|08:39 pm]
Beemer
I forgot to mention, regarding Phoenix, that we watched some of that new Planet Earth show on the Discovery channel.

Wow. It hasn't really got much in the way of a throughline, it's mostly just nature footage strung together with some narration, but boy, it's some impressive random footage. If you have an HDTV, this is something you should be watching.

In fact, if you have an HDTV, it's something you should be renting on DVD and inviting me over to watch. For the twenty-foot manta rays, if nothing else.

Wow, what a coincidence, we're watching the arctic one now. Z is obsessed with animals movies. I imagine he might get at least one of the DVDs next Xmas. Currently, we've just ben TiVoing since we don't have Netflix or HD channels. You're more than welcome to come over and watch with your philosophew, though. He'd love it.

I meant "animal moves" or "animals and movies".

Been watching it too. Unfortunately, our toy cable company has a lot of dropouts in their
high def channels, so there are breaks in the sound and occasional streaks of mangled
pixels in the picture, but still oh so cool. The first ep ("Pole to Pole") was a little more
maudlin than I like (I KNOW we're wrecking the planet, but do you HAVE to keep rehashing
it?), but still gorgeous.

If it comes out on Blu-Ray, I may well buy the whole set.

Oh, and in the oceans episode, having Sigourney Weaver say "vampire squid from hell" is the best thing ever!
