Xmas Mahjong Darko Travel Ack

Ack! Busy = no posts...

Christmas was good. I forgot how long the drive is (about 5 hours). I got lots of good stuff. Scott McCloud's Reinventing Comics makes me want to write something in comic format. Like a physics textbook or something. If you've never read any of his books on comics, you really should. He does some amazing stuff.

Working on my chunk of the proposal, which I have to have finished before I head out to Monterey next week. Suddenly realizing that if I don't come in to work tomorrow because of snow, I won't be back in the office before I leave, so I'd better collect everything I need for the trip!

We're forecast to get a bunch of snow again today, but so far it's just raining. I'm keeping an eye on it, though, so I can head home early if need be.

Oh! I gave Jerry a mahjong set for Christmas! We played a game while up at Mom's. It's a lot of fun. Kind of like rummy, although the scoring rules are insanely complicated. We really need to find an "intro to mahjong" book. There are enough regional variations that it's kind of hard to sort things out when working from the rules posted on various websites.

We watched Donnie Darko (the director's cut) last night. It's a good movie; I enjoyed it. What I found impressive is just how much it kept me uncertain. Through most of the movie, I literally had no idea what was going to happen next. And yet by the end, I felt that it all hung together and made sense. (Reading an online FAQ did help clear up a couple lingering questions.)
