I can't remember where I found this, which probably means that everyone else has already seen it, but: if you are fond I Don't Feel Like Dancin' by the Scissor Sisters, you should really check out Hayseed Dixie's bluegrass cover.|
We watched the first DVD of The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers this evening, a cartoon I remember fondly from when I was 14 or so. It didn't suck nearly as badly as I feared it might. (It's always a big risk to revisit things from childhood...)
The voice acting isn't very good, and the background music (thoroughly '80s synthesizer, drum machine, and/or wailing guitar) is truly awful. But the animation is pretty decent for its time, the concept has potential (modulo the tiredness of the cowboys in space motif), and the scripts are actually good. As in, neither the dialogue nor the sci-fi bits made me cringe. That's pretty impressive. Episode 3 was probably a D, but 1 & 2 were solid Bs and 4 was a C+ at worst. Overall, I was entertained. They just jump right into the action, explaining things (or not) as they go, and I think they may even be setting up arc plot. So I'm going to give it at least another disc to see if it gets anywhere interesting. (And it would make a great RPG. I may steal some adventure ideas from it.)
EDIT: Oh look, apparently the 4 episodes on the DVD were originally numbers 2, 9, 17, and 25. I guess I have no idea what they did with background info and how they set up the arc plot...
