Control Tower

Public Speaking

So apparently, according to the workshop evaluations the participants filled out, the talk I gave last Wednesday was well-received. Like, enough to warrant mentioning by somebody who'd seen the evaluations.

Which is pretty cool, considering that two weeks before I had no idea at all what I could say to that audience that might be interesting.

Evidence is starting to suggest that I'm a fairly good presenter, which is funny because I don't think of myself that way. I mean, I don't mind doing it, and it seems to have gone well the last umpteen times I've done it, but I haven't put "public speaking" on my mental list of my strong points.

Probably because the first significant talk I gave was at AGU when I was in grad school, and it was awkward and poorly organized and I didn't really know what the hell I was talking about or trying to say, and it probably wasn't full-on terrible, but it wasn't good, either.

Hunh. Maybe time to update my self-assessment.
