New recipes
After a week of not being able to deal with cooking dinner, I got ambitious on Saturday and tried a bunch of new recipes.
Chris's birthday barbecue was Saturday evening. I used up some bok choy by roasting it with a spicy sesame-soy dressing, which was tasty but didn't make very much. So then I made a bunch of roasted broccoli, because yum.
But more importantly, I made a cake!
I saw this recipe for Black Magic Chocolate Cake, in which the secret ingredient is condensed tomato soup, and the review said it's it really good, so I had to try it. And it is! I also whipped up some chocolate-cream-cheese frosting and made it into a layer cake. It was kinda ugly, but very yummy. So hooray, weird cake!
Also, lamb-burgers, socialization, Dominion, 7 Wonders, woo!
Sunday was pool partying at Bob & Pyro's followed by D&D, so I made a savory summer vegetable cobbler from the Good and Cheap cookbook. (Vegetarian, so Jon & Gary could have some.) It was good! The crust was a little involved, though; if I make it again, I might just bisquik it.
Also, several hours of lounging in the pool. Yay! And zapping things with psionics in D&D.
And then tonight I made a broccoli-tofu stir-fry with peanut sauce, mostly to use up things in the fridge. No recipe to link to, since I fiddled with it a lot. But basically: fry up some tofu, par-boil some broccoli and carrots, and mix it all with a sauce of peanut butter, vinegar, soy sauce, and a bit of molasses. Stick blender the sauce with some water to make the sauce smooth. Yum! Some onion would have gone well, too, but we were out.
