*Well, modulo the socialization mandated by my boyfriends. I hung out with Thomas & played some Earth Defense Force 2017 yesterday, and tonight was Movie Night, and Friday was recuperating from presenting at the conference, so it was really only Thursday. But anyway.
I enjoyed Meet the Robinsons. I bet it was fantastic in 3-D. On the TV... I think I'd put it middle of the pack for Disney / Pixar type movies. (Although I'm totally hooked on the song "The Future Has Arrived" from the end credits, which I've been listening to on YouTube all weekend.)
I also liked Knocked Up. It probably would have been better in an crowd that was enthused about it than on its own, but it was sweet and funny at the same time that it was about people totally screwing up, so I give it a thumbs-up. I was impressed at how much awkwardness there was in it without it making me cringe.
Hot Fuzz, which we watched for Movie Night, was AWESOME. YAY! I loved it. Simon Pegg does a really great job at making these shifts in tone and feel that are very sudden but not jarring. It's great fun to watch them point out the silliness of all the standard action cop movie tropes, and then say "but now we're going to do them anyway" at the end, and do them really well. I think I'm going to have to keep it an extra day or two to watch it with the commentary on.
I tried out the chicken tikka masala recipe from Cook's Illustrated tonight, and I think it turned out really well. It's a bit of work, but not bad. I'll probably make it again.
