I have been working in a unix or linux environment for the last bajillion* years.

*Okay, fifteen or so. In computer time, that's a bajillion.

How did I only realize the existence of the 'rename' command recently?

I don't even know when I figured it out, because it is obvious (intuitively obvious) there should be such a command, it should work the way it does, and it should be named something like 'rename'. I have used it a couple times recently. But I can recall plenty of times in the past when it would have been exactly the right tool to use and I did something much more complicated instead, so I must not have known about it.

How is it that there's so much room to fit dumb in between all my smart? My brain is already full!
