It was a good trip. We flew in to San Jose on Friday (way cheaper than SFO or OAK on this occasion) and took CalTrain in to SF, which is a very civilized way of getting from A to B. Then walked to Squid Labs SF, where the evening's pre-wedding festivities were. Met lots of new people and caught up with lots of old friends. We rode over to Island of Tortuga (Chrisy & U-Boat's place, where we stayed this weekend) with Jofish & Caitlin and Julee, then bedded down on an air mattress in the sunroom.
Saturday morning I helped out with a run to buy extraordinary amounts of fruit for brunch on Sunday. We went to Berkeley Bowl, which has the biggest and best produce section I have ever seen. It was really quite stunning.
A bit after lunchtime, we drove over to Golden Gate park. It was cloudy and quite cool, and I was reminded for the first of many times of Mark Twain's famous quote about the coldest winter he ever knew was a summer in San Francisco. Lots of lovely people to hang out with. The Dr. Tectonic t-shirt was a big hit.
The ceremony got under way around 4-ish, and was quite lovely. The bride's awesome silver-purple-gradient dress matched her purple hair, and Jofish runs a mean wedding. The reading were great; I especially liked the ones from Miss Manners and the MA & CA state supreme court rulings on same-sex marriage, both of which provided eloquent definitions of what marriage is all about. The crowd was called on to voice our support for the couple, and we made a lot of noise. Oh, and O Fortuna for the processional music. The reception was at Squid Labs Alameda, and was a fine party. Bride & groom had a first playing of Rock Band, instead of a first dance, and that was fun. It got really cold at sunset from shore breeze and then warmed back up once it was dark, which was new and different -- weather's not supposed to do that. Discovered that Pimm's punch is very tasty. I think it's the cucumber.
Oh, and I should mention that we managed to miss the turn on the drive over about five times. This is funny because we started adding all kinds of disappointed noises to the very british voice of Jofish's GPS as it said, over and over, "*sigh* Route recalculation".
Sunday it was basically brunch all day long at Tortuga. Played a couple rounds of Unspeakable Words in the evening, hung out, ate lots of food. And there was still lots left.
Yesterday we flew back and had to catch Caltrain at 4:30, so we rode over to Squid Labs SF again and left our luggage in the office whilst wandering about the city. Met Bats & Xris Onufryk for lunch and an hour or two of delightfully lunatic chatter about cats and suchlike. We tried to hit SF-MOMA on our way to the train, but there were HUGE lines because Frida Kahlo exhibit had just opened up.
And then we came home.
