Have some love! [Oct. 1st, 2008|10:00 pm]
Beemer
There seem to be some bad juju vibes free-floating about many people in my corner of the universe recently, so I thought I would make a post where I offered to think good thoughts in the direction of anyone who wanted it.

And then I thought, why should people have to ask?

So I just went through my entire friendslist and spent a few moments on each and every one of you, contemplating and appreciating your unique and individual awesomeness. And then I thought about the awesomeness of people in general, to cover all the people I don't know well enough to appreciate in specific.

So if you're reading this? I think that you, yes, YOU are made of WIN and AWESOME! You rawk! Hooray for you!

:D

(And I have to say, I recommend this practice to anyone who might be interested. I now feel really good because I know so many awesome people!)

Awesome people are awesome. I had a similar feeling at my housewarming party last weekend, where we had approximately 40 of my favorite people in the world, including kids and other assorted hangers-on. And even if I didn't get to spend as much individual time with each person, watching them interact in all sorts of neat ways was way fun. Oh, I'm so glad to be back around my people.

"spent a few moments on each and every one of you"

So that explains the tingly sensation I had at approximately 9:58 last night! Thank God; I thought it was a hernia.

But on the serious, HOORAY FOR DR. TECTONIC! His heart is as big 'n' burly as a folkloric lumberjack's!

There is a tradition of this practice in Buddhism, where it is known as metta or loving-kindness meditation.

I'm reminded of a discussion of prayer-efficacy studies I was in ages ago, where the subject of people who pray for the well-being of people who have nobody praying specifically for them came up.

That sounds like it would be remarkably difficult to test the efficacy of. Can you even estimate the level of background prayer radiation?

I'm gonna start praying for the set of people who are not the targets of any prayer, including this one.

yeah, it's a tricky problem. Past a certain point ya gotta wonder about the underlying model.

I was wondering why, in spite of my angst last night, I was able to fall asleep so easily. Now I know why, and I think I'm a little in love with you as a result. I hope your boys don't mind sharing.

Thank you, Beemer. And I shall try it myself, tonight, for I have recently been hard-pressed to find any awesomeness in certain parts of my friends list.

It builds momentum as you go. The more awesome you've already found, the easier it is to find more.
