Hardware [Feb. 25th, 2009|02:35 pm]
We have two DSL modems (one old and slightly creaky, the other brand-new) and a wireless router (older, works fine) that have been obsoleted by our switch to cable internet and the fancy all-in-one modem/router/wireless/firewall box we got for free* with our sign-up deal.

What should I do with the old hardware?

We don't need it, but it's Still Perfectly Good™, so I can't just throw it in the trash or the karmic waste-management pixies will smite me.

*Must go xerox UPC barcodes and mail in rebates...

Old DSL Modem: Zyxel Prestige 645
New DSL Modem: Broadxent 8012-V1
Wireless Router: D-Link DI-524

I'd keep it around, even if you are on cable, now. You never know when someone you know might have theirs blow up on them.

Keeping old hardware has actually come in handy twice for us since September. My flatmate's router was a piece of junk and blew up, and then his switchbox gave out on him about a month later lol

I'll happy give them to anyone who'd like them, but they don't want to live in my house anymore. It's too crowded.

Well, unfortunately, DSL sucks, so like any intelligent person, I'm on cable as well.

And have about four modems as backup, as it is lol
