Coughs, chairs, eggplant, leaves

Not a whole lot to report from Beemer-land over the last little while. My cold is gone, but it has left in its wake (as always) The Lingering Cough. Which is as annoying as it ever is, but at least this time I already have a bottle of benzonatate pills with which to quell it, left over from before the trip to Europe. Still, I'm sucking on cough drops all day, and have grown quite tired of the flavor of menthol.

Had a little 1.5-day workshop last week which is exciting primarily because now I am done with being a program chair for it! It's a cross-discipinary thing, so they wanted representation from both fields, which means I had a co-chair. And the point of having a chairperson is the decision-making, so if you've got CO-chairs, everything has to be decided jointly. And the co-chair was a lovely woman, and it's not like we even disagreed about anything, it's just that the back-and-forth of it all got kind of excruciating. It's like, the organizers would ask us to make some necessary but minor and rather arbitrary decision, like, what order should the poster highlights go in? And one of use says "how about blah?", and the other one says "sure, sounds good to me", and then you tell the organizers "we've decided blah", and at no point can you send an email saying what you're actually thinking which is "OHMIGOD I am SO tired of emailing about this please just kill me now." But it's done now. Huzzah!

Jerry had a tang soo do test on Saturday, which he rocked. Meanwhile, I went to the store and bought ramen. Oh, but I made eggplant with miso-mirin glaze (nasu dengaku) for his potluck, so I got bonus hubby points. It is tasty enough that I may actually go to the grocery store and intentionally purchase eggplant to make it again sometime, which is kind of shocking to mee.

On Sunday, we brought Douglas along and went for a drive up into the mountains to look at autumn colors. Golden Gate Canyon is still open, so you can drive up that to the top then turn on 119 and drive the Peak-to-Peak over to Nederland. I don't think you can go past Ned, though. (Signs certainly seemed to indicate that.) We saw some nice patches of gold, but not a whole lot of color overall. I'm not sure if it's still early, or if this is one of those years where most of the trees go straight from green to brown. Still, we saw some nice vistas and had a lovely and delightful time overall.
