Which is worse, snakes or spiders? [Nov. 4th, 2013|07:28 pm]

Which is worse?

I can remember being terrorized in by a gigantic wolf spider in the bathroom when I was in kindergarten, but nowadays I really don't mind spiders at all. They're kinda nifty. (In fact, if they're fuzzy and have big eyes, I even think they can be cute.)

Snakes, though. *shudder* I'm with Indiana Jones. I can tolerate, like, a snake, if it's small. But big snakes, or especially multiple snakes -- double-especially snakes with slit pupils -- they give me the creeps, the willies, and the heebie-jeebies.

Same here. I don't want to do a lot of close interaction with spiders, but they are totally on our side. We disturbed a lot if them moving a wood pile this weekend. I felt like I should spend the evenings making little spider houses to make up for all the winter resting places we disturbed.

Snakes...no. Just no.

My dad taught me basic snake-catching and handling when I was a kid, so no fear of snakes from me. Though I'll keep a proper distance from the poisonous ones, thank you very much.

Where's the option for "I want no part of either, thank you very much!"?

Snakes are worse than spiders, but, they don't terrify me. I endeavor to leave them alone, but, when I've encountered them in the wild (mostly hognose, bull and garter snakes), I just back away, and we go on about our business.

I never can understand why people keep snakes as pets. They've always made me cringe, even the garter snakes and green snakes.

I'm not a huge fan of spiders either, but I don't tend to recoil in terror from them.
