Yesterday was Jerry's brown belt test for Tang Soo Do, which he passed without problem. I am apparently getting better at taking pictures of the action. I also got to see his Little Tigers class (for 3-6 year olds) before it started, and they are just riDONKulously adorable. So that took up all morning and a chunk of the afternoon.
In the afternoon, we learned that a friend of ours (Carol O.) had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Which I'm still having a little bit of trouble absorbing, because it's stupid and makes no sense. We weren't very close, but it leaves a hole in the natural order of things, and I will miss her.
I went over to the Gamaches' that evening to condole with some other folks who knew her. I also ended up playing chess with Nick's daughter Katie. I introduced her to cylinder chess (where the sides of the board wrap around), and then explained to her how to use it to beat people that she thought might beat her at regular chess.
Today I got the recipes and shopping for Thanksgiving all figured out (we're having it at our place for the first time this year). Jerry had a birthday party at the studio (for 5 and 6-year-olds!) to help run, and afterwards we tried out a well-reputed vietnamese restaurant over in Thornton. The menu was nothing special, but the dishes I got were all quite well-executed.
This evening I went and saw Thor: The Dark World, which I quite enjoyed. It was sort of like the restaurant: nothing spectacularly unexpected, but well-executed and definitely satisfying. And it passes the Bechdel test as soon as the intro sequence is done! [Spoiler (click to open)]And it looks like all the Avengers tie-in movies are indeed going to form one gigantic cross-over when all is said and done.
Okay, early to bed for me tonight. Gotta be at work early tomorrow.
