Mostly blargh with scattered yay [Nov. 20th, 2015|10:07 pm]
My Monkey is home, yay!

I think I'm getting a cold, boo.

But it feels pretty mild, so I think the zinc lozenges are working. Yay, I guess?

Nothing much worth mentioning since getting home, other than realizing that if I drive to work and have nobody to share dinner with, I am prone to staying late at the office. And that the tail-fitting technique I'm testing for my research works a lot better when you don't have a math error.

My patience for engaging with global geopolitics is very limited, especially the kind of nonsense floating about lately (this Wondermark comic is not inapposite), but I realized that the phrase "oh, honey, no" is a good way to express my disapproval if at a holiday dinner any of my relatives starts sounding like one of the preemptive mental arguments I've been imagining, in that it minimizes the likelihood of things escalating to the point where I storm out, disown somebody, engage in fisticuffs, or curse in front of my grandmother, while also having the best chance of maybe leading to the offending party reflecting on their political view due to feelings of awkwardness and embarrassment.

So I'm gonna keep that in my pocket.

Just in case somebody starts acting in a way that I fret about that is completely unlike the way they normally act in reality...

Goodness, that Wondermark is pertinent to my interests. Gakking! Thanks!

I have recently become enamoured with "bless your heart" as a synonym for "fuck you".

I can never quite pull it off, however.

(nods) I've been prepping for "No. Not at my table, not today."
