Baby Driver

Jerry and I saw Baby Driver this afternoon. It's good! And definitely one to see in the theater; not only are the visuals scoped for a big screen, the soundtrack matters a lot, so you want to see it in a venue with a good sound system.

It's pretty awesome that Edgar was able to take the idea from the video he filmed for Mint Royale's Blue Song back in 2003 and turn it into a full-length feature. I was delighted when I spotted the brief clip from it on-screen. If you've never seen it:

One of the things I really liked about the movie is the way it set things up. I wouldn't say it telegraphs its punches, because I didn't feel like I knew what was coming, but it did a good job of setting up the pins so that when the bowling ball comes along and knocks them all down, it's doesn't feel unexpected or out of place. It respects the audience's ability to read between the lines, and I always appreciate that.

I also really liked the way it ended. That was actually a surprise, and a pleasant one.
